About Us:
We’re a group of fiber artists and soft goods producers in Whatcom County and beyond. Our goal is to connect new crafters and advanced hobbyists, artists and entrepreneurs, local producers and small business owners, all of whom are passionate about sharing their love of craft.
What We Do:
Crafting Connections
There’s no better way to make friends than by sharing your love of a craft or hobby! Our main goal is bringing together people who love fiber and textile arts of all sorts. We love connecting with our crafty community through member meetings, workshops, swap meets, craft fairs, and more!
Supporting Local Producers
WSGC was started in part to help establish a cottage textile industry in Whatcom County. While there are many hurdles to bringing local soft goods manufacturing to our area, we believe that there is hope for fast, high-quality production to take place right next door. If you are a local business looking to hire your neighbors, check out our producer directory or get in touch with us to start your project.
Promoting Sustainability & Circularity
Traditional fiber arts were almost entirely focused on preserving precious materials, transforming waste into something precious and useful. We aim to use every scrap, empowering our community to embrace sustainable practices and providing opportunities to share materials and upcycle damaged or excess goods.
Sharing Skills
Whether through teaching workshops, organizing mentorships, or bartering work, we believe in the power of partnership to preserve crucial skills that have often been seen as superfluous throughout history. Check out our events or get in touch to inquire about organizing your own!
How to Get Involved:
For the Curious: Interested in fiber arts and excited to learn something new? Come to one of our meet-ups or take a workshop! Check out our upcoming events here.
For the Creative Entrepreneur: Do you sell (or hope to start selling) your work? We are working on launching a group for small business owners and working fiber and textile artists. Get in touch to learn more!
For the Community: Are you an experienced crafter or artist looking to mentor or teach? We can help organize one-on-one mentorships as well as group workshops. If you’re part of another local fiber arts group, we’re also happy to add your events to our calendar! Please fill out this form to submit your event.
